Specific retail skills that should be present in a resume are those that grab the attention of the potential employer.  These skills are linked to the competencies mentioned above and get the employee noticed: managerial functions: recruitment and firing of human resource, Planning, making of schedules, buying, receipts, maintenance of stocks, shipping, designing, displaying, merchandising along with advertisement and store management. In the area of dealing with customers, key skills include public relations and customer care. Information and communication technology skills as all areas require proficiency in Information technology.

The applicant should however ensure that their skills are up-graded with time in relation to the retail industry. This means that all relevant education that the applicant is undertaking at that particular time should be included. When making a list of skills for the retail business in a resume, the applicant should make sure that:

  • He /she is honest about all the skills listed on the resume
  • He/she has carefully gone through all the relevant skills that they have and list them appropriately
  • He/she uses key technical terms specific to the retail industry to show their experience and interest in the industry.
